Texas Call to Action

From Campus Carry...

"On Thursday, May 19, Senate Bill 1581, the bill containing Senator Jeff Wentworth’s campus carry amendment, was struck down in the Texas House, on the point of order that it violated the Texas Constitution’s “single-subject” rule. Please call AND fax the office of Governor Rick Perry, and ask that he add campus carry to the list of higher education issues to be included in the impending special session.

Remind the governor that this issue has broad support among both the legislators and the people of Texas. Remind him that campus carry has never been voted down by any faction of the Texas Legislature and that it has passed the Texas Senate twice. Ask him to send a message to opponents that they can’t simply keep running out the clock on this issue forever. Thanks for your continued support of this important issue. Remember, the fight isn’t over!"

Here is my letter that I faxed to the Governor...

"Governor Perry, as I am sure you are aware, On Thursday, May 19, 2011 Senate Bill 1581, the bill containing Senator Jeff Wentworth’s campus carry amendment, was struck down in the House, on the grounds that it violated the “single-subject” rule. Governor, I am deeply disappointed that this important piece of legislation was struck down. It is my understanding that an impending special session is about to take place. Would you please add this legislation to the other important higher education issues?

As a student myself, I implore you to spearhead this issue. Governor, this issue has strong support from both legislators and the people of Texas alike. Together they have shown strong support for the allowance of concealed carry on campus. Further, I call on you to send a strong message to those in the minority who do oppose this issue. Tell them that they can’t simply run the clock out on this issue forever, and that Texas will join the ranks of other states who do currently allow concealed carry on their college campuses.

Thank you for your consideration. May God Bless Texas, and may God Bless the United States of America."

Remember, together we can stand and make a change. Alone, we can do nothing.
